Truth be told, religion IS sexism especially Islam. In all of the holly books, women are treated as slaves like if they exist only for men to enjoy their body.

I have nothing personal against religious people but I DO have something against religion itself

That's probably because the holy books were written in a time when sexism wasn't even a word, when that kind of treatment towards women was considered acceptable. It's getting very outdated. Another thing is that the bible was put together by a bunch of old men, and since they figured women were less worth than men, they removed Mary Magdalene's evangelium, and changed parts of the bible to make it seem like she was a whore (But now in the later days, they've found out that she actually wasn't a whore, she was one of Jesus' closest diciples.). I even heard from my former French teacher that they once established that women don't have souls. o_0 Islam is even more sexist, though.
But the thing is, I don't think sexism is because of religion, I think it's more because men are physically stronger than women, so perhaps that's what gave the people in the ancient times the idea that men were more worth than women or something. But religion might've strengthened those ideas even more, because then people think sexism is "God's idea" and that it's right because "God says so", and you know that whatever God says is right, no matter what ridiculous things God says.

The people of ancient Greece and Rome were very sexist, though, and they didn't have one God that told them to be sexist, they had a whole bunch of gods, both male and female. Surpisingly, vikings were not sexist. o.0 So anyway, I just wanted to say that I don't really think sexism is because of religion, I think it's more a result of when someone wants power, and then they get these ideas that they deserve this power because they're "superior". It's kind of like the same thing with racism, where someone convinces themselves that they're "superior" and more worth than those that are different from them, and therefore they deserve to rule over them, or something like that.
